Only The Lonely Survive

This project was developed as the final assignment for the lettering seminar led by Martina Flor. The task was to design a Spotify cover for the song "Only The Lonely Survive" included in the album Phantoms by Marianas Trench. In this fictional scenario, the Canadian band, known for its electropop and symphonic rock sound, wanted a lettering artist who could encapsulate the passionate yet tumultuous themes of the song and album—a track that explores the haunting experience of love. The challenge was to create a piece that conveyed the song's dramatic emotions, ghostly vibes, and the unique blend of pop rock, symphonic rock, and electropop genres.

I approached this project by blending various lettering styles to visually express the song's contrasting themes of love and heartbreak, and also the diverse melodies. Drawing inspiration from the band's original album cover, I crafted my interpretation of their sound using a black, white, and red colour palette—symbolising love, drama, and intensity. To evoke a ghostly, haunted feel, I incorporated foggy effects and drop shadows, adding depth and mystery to the design. The result is a striking and dynamic cover that stands as a representation of "Only The Lonely Survive.”
