Challenge
Create a design that feels respectful of the historical context while still being visually engaging for a modern audience. Focusing on representing both her elegance and daring, qualities that defined her life as a pioneering aviator and public figure.
Solution
Taking inspiration from the 1930s Art Deco artistic movement, I created a geometric and bold lettering style to reflect Amelia’s strong personality, while keeping the layout clean and minimal. Also, using an ascending baseline to suggest movement and flight. The colour palette was chosen to connect with the sky and vintage pilot gear, creating contrast without overwhelming the design. A plane passing shadow was added to reinforce the theme without distracting from the overall simplicity
Outcome
This project was an opportunity to explore how visual design can support storytelling in non-fiction, especially when dealing with real lives.
