Challenge
In this fictional scenario, the Canadian band Marianas Trench wanted a lettering artist who could translate the essence of their song Only the Lonely Survive. The piece should convey the song’s dramatic emotions, ghostly vibes, and the unique blend of pop rock, symphonic rock, and electropop genres.
Solution
I approached this project by blending various lettering styles to visually express the song’s contrasting themes of love and heartbreak, and also the diverse melodies. Drawing inspiration from the band’s original album cover, I crafted my interpretation of their sound using a black, white, and red colour palette, symbolising love, drama, and intensity. To evoke a ghostly, haunted feel, I incorporated foggy effects and drop shadows, adding depth and mystery to the design.
Outcome
The result is a striking and dynamic cover that stands as a representation of “Only The Lonely Survive.” In a format ready to be used on music platforms, like Spotify. This piece allows the name of the song to be the main protagonist while telling its story visually. It is also readable in thumbnail size, allowing the listeners to recognise their favourite sounds inside this platforms.
